State legislators rejected almost all of the anti-immigrant laws proposed in the State Senate Courts of Justice immigration subcommittee this afternoon. Thank you to all the Virginia Organizing supporters who made calls, sent emails, showed up at events and spoke out against these anti-immigrant bills. Your work paid off and your voice was heard.

Danville Virginia Organizing Speaks Out for Immigrants' Rights at DCC

Danville, VA- Danville residents held a campus tabling event collecting dozens of hand written postcards for immigrant rights on Tuesday at Danville Community College. The Danville Chapter of Virginia Organizing joined hundreds of Virginians across the state to oppose a slew of anti-immigrant and anti-democratic legislation in the 2011 Virginia General Assembly. The postcards will be mailed to state Senator Bill Stanley who will vote on key immigration legislation in the coming days.

 

S. Hampton Roads Virginia Organizing Lobbies Legislators for Immigrant Rights

A delegation of Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake residents visited Richmond on Thursday for a day of lobbying their legislators for immigrants rights. The South Hampton Roads Chapter of Virginia Organizing, Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO) and the Hispanic Community Dialogue joined hundreds of Virginians across the state this week and next week to oppose a slew of anti-immigrant and anti-democratic legislation in the 2011 Virginia General Assembly.

Tell Us Your Immigration Story: W&M Students Speak out for Immigrants Rights through Campus Video Project

William and Mary students will hold a campus video event for immigrant rights on Wednesday, February 2 from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. in the University Center (Lodge 1). The William and Mary Chapter of Virginia Organizing will be asking students and faculty to tell their family’s immigration story or ethnic history on video as a way of linking to the struggles current immigrants face. The videos will be sent to members of the General Assembly and Governor Bob McDonnell.
