About the Northern Virginia Chapter

Icon November 22, 2010 - 22:13

We are doing lots of workshops and meetings about the need to take a balanced approach to the Virginia budget, rather than simply making cuts.  Check the calendar, and if there's not a workshop happening near you in the coming week or two, please email Kevin to set one up!

We are also focused on educating the community on the new health care law, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and how it can help Virginians.

This video is from the recent Virginia Organizing archives. Joe Szakos, Virginia Organizing's Executive Director, joins Reston Impact host John Lovass for a chat about social and economic justice in Virginia. They discuss how to get more real people involved in the political process and make our government more responsive to the people.

It's a great conversation about Virginia politicas and community organizing.  John Lovaas has been a wondeful supporter of Virginia Organizing. Check it out!

With for-profit health insurers secretly spending millions to buy GOP support for anti-consumer legislation, activists demanded transparency and accountability at the companies’ annual shareholder meetings over the past week.

No premiums for politics...Why we were kicked out of Coventry.

Yesterday morning a dozen Virginia community activists rolled out of bed very early to drop by the Ritz Carlton on their way to work. All before 9:00 am, this group was thrown out of the Ritz Carlton and succeeded in disrupting the shareholders meeting of the 6th largest health insurance company in the United States.

Not too shabby for not having any coffee yet!

Help us hold big insurance accountable in McClean this Thursday!!

Icon May 18, 2011 - 19:58

We need your help to keep holding big insurance companies accountable in Virginia!  THIS Thursday (May 19) at 8am Coventry Health Care (the nation's 6th largest insurer) is having their shareholder meeting in Tysons Corner at the Ritz Carlton.  This company has one of the lowest MLRs in the industry (only spends 66% of its money on medical costs) and they'll be trying to defeat a proposal that would force them to be more transparent in their political donations.
