About the Charlottesville Chapter
Charlottesville is the headquarters of Virginia Organizing and also has an active local chapter. Local residents work on a variety of issues included budget and tax reform, health care reform and economic and ending predatory lending. The Charlottesville Chapter famously fought for a living wage for UVA workers and continues to fight for local workers' rights and social and ecnonomic justice issues.
Letter to Bank of America: You're on Notice, See you In Charlotte.
Today, Virginia Organizing leaders attempted to the deliver the following letter to the Charlottesville branch manager. The mananger kindly refused so the group went to the nearest post office and mailed the following:

Breaking up with Bank of America: Michele's story
Over the last several months Virginia Organizing has joined the campaign Move Our Money USA in moving $57 million away from the big banks into credit unions and small banks.
We have moved our money because big banks like Bank of America support predatory lending, engage in foreclosure fraud and fail to lend money to small businesses that create jobs.
Here is one of thousands of stories of people taking control of their money. Michele from Charlottesville said enough is enough, took out a pair of scissors and cut Bank of America out of her life!

8th Annual Virginia Organizing Social Justice Bowl!
Virginia Organizing will hold its eigth annual Social Justice Bowl on Friday, November 18, at 6:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Rugby Road. The Social Justice bowl is a community building event as well as a fundraiser.

"It's not me, it's you." Breaking up with the big banks.
Wall Street and the big banks crashed our economy, destroyed jobs, caused millions to lose their homes, bankrupted city and state budgets and refused to pay their fair share of what it will take to rebuild our economy. So, why should we continue to give them our money? We can vote with our feet on this one.

Beginning With Wells Fargo on Friday, Residents to Close Accounts in Protest of Bailouts, Illegal Foreclosures and Corporate Money in Politics
CHARLOTTESVILLE- Inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement, Virginia Organizing (formerly know as Virginia Organizing Project) is kicking off a “We’ve Had Enough and We’re Taking It Back” big bank divestment campaign this Friday at 1:30pm in front of the Wells Fargo bank on the downtown mall.

On Monday, September, 19th the Charlottesville Virginia Organizing Chapter testified at the Charlottesville City Council and asked the council to set as a high priority the development and implementation of a strategy for moving more people of color into supervisory and managerial roles. The City Council agreed and is now moving forward with a plan.
